Historic Hood River
Out on the Town

Notes
These well-dressed gents were friends of Max Moore’s, which is how they wound up pasted in Arline Moore’s album. I believe she put this album together many years later which is why there are often details missing or slightly off. She has identified the men as Edgar Franz, Chet Huggins, ? Young, Bob Bragg, Fred Coshow and Lou Morgan. She dates it to 1912. Can someone figure out how old these men would have been then?
We saw Fred Coshow before here.
They’re standing on a railroad trestle. Based on the background hill profile I’m pretty sure this is just east of the depot downtown, looking NNE. It could be the mainline OR&N Co. tracks or the Mount Hood Railroad. I think the house to the right would have been on the Button property.
I have a strong feeling I posted this one before, but if I can’t find it I guess I didn’t do a good job tagging it the first time. If you find it let me know so I can add some tags.

Edgar Franz, b. 29 Sep 1893
George Chester Huggins, b. 12 Feb 1893
Robert Bragg, b. Jul 1894
Fred Coshow, b. 1883 (he had a brother, John Milton Coshow, b. 12 Jun 1893)
I couldn’t find a Lou Coshow with a birth date
There was a Glenn Young, b. 20 Mar 1894 that could have been a friend.

I don’t remember seeing the photo before.
Looks like some young men, smoking cigarettes.
I don’t think this has anything to do with the photo, but Robert Bragg’s 24 year old brother William Gordon Bragg died in HR on July 18, 1912.

FIRST FOOT BALL GAME NEXT SUNDAY
The Hood River football team will play its first game Sunday on Chapman park with a team from The Dalles. The local team contains many lads who have starred on past high school teams. They have played together on numerous former occasions and know each others’ tactics. Their team work should be good.
The line up is as follows: center, Bragg; guards, Guy Miller and Guy Husbands; tackles, Golden Husbands and Shrum; ends, Shay and Lewis; half backs, Ford and Fred Coshow; full back Franz; quarter, Joe Carson.
The boys have been practicing together this week preparing for the game.

Number 5 looks like he could have teleported in from a well-known August Sander photograph: https://rarehistoricalphotos.com/young-farmers-august-sander/
