Historic Hood River
Imholtz-Coshow

Notes
This photo of Gil Imholtz (left) and Harry Coshow (right) is from Arline Moore’s photo album. It is dated 1910.
Presumably these gentlemen were friends of Max Moore. From newspaper clips I see Coshow played football (nickname “Tuffy”) and in 1914 married Viola Crapper. He had two brothers (Fred and John). The Coshow family moved to Hood River in 1907 when their father purchased a men’s clothing store. It looks like Imholtz may have moved east in 1911. But I suspect there is more than that to these two fellows. What can you add?

I can add that they are a couple of very handsome dandies.
But if they played football, they must have been tuff dandies.

I don't have much time to research this morning, but I did find this from the Oregonian.
O.P. Coshow crossed the plains in 1851 and settled in Brownsville, Oregon. He was a prominent farmer and horse breeder. Two weeks before he passed in January 1914, his son Robert of Hood River passed. Nine other children survive him. Son O.P. is an attorney and running for state governor.
Robert Coshow of Hood River passed away December of 1914. He leaves behind his wife, three sons and two daughters. Mrs. C.E. Fuller of Odell: Miss Eva Coshow, a teacher at the institute for the blind at Berkeley: Harry, John and Fred, all of Hood River.

I don't imagine the sons of the orchardists and loggers around town were dressing like this.

I don't about the lack of fashion sense for orchardist families- I have seen some pretty spiffy photos of orchardists family gatherings! They knew how to clean up and dress up in those days! My grandmother was SO fashion conscious- she made her own clothes and even hats, using fashion magazines for her ideas and patterns. They didn't spend all their time in the orchard!

I don't recognize Coshow as a 'valley name'. Did they move on after settling here? I think the Imholt name is still here. Both handsome fellows.

this picture is the definition of dapper.

The parents of Gilbert Imholz, William and Ida Imholz, stayed in Hood River and are buried in Idlewilde Cemetery, both passing away in 1934. Gilbert moved back to Peotone, Will County, Illinois, where he was born. He died there in 1936. Gil's sister, Lois Imholz married Edgar Button (a Valley name). Sister Hilma Imholz married Arthur Charles Lofts of Hood River. Brother Theron Imholz married Lena Koberg (another Valley name). Brother Rudyard Imholz married Zoe Newman.

Thanks Jeffrey for the information on the Imholz (Imholtz) family. For the 1910 census they are listed in Peotone, Illinois but in November of 1910 they are in HR with Gil returning to Illinois in October, 1911.
Later newspapers list younger Coshow and Imholz siblings in athletic endeavors together.
I wonder if this photo could be related to an August 16, 1911 Glacier article telling about the Booster Club giving a farewell banquet with musical entertainment at the Young Building in honor of Gessling leaving town.
In attendance were, Coshow, Imholz and Max Moore.
