It looks like his version of stickie notes on the wall near the lamp

I’m thankful that the Hood River newspapers focused on local news and let the Oregonian address State and National topics. There is a wealth of information in the local papers as a result.

Is that a cat asleep under the woodstove?

    Looks like a log.

I think the “stickie notes” are mostly business cards tacked to the wall, along with an insurance company calendar. The cat under the wood stove? It looks like tissue paper and maybe some wood blocks– kindling? There's not enough detail to be sure.

I vote cat. That's where cats hang out. It appears to be a cat color rather than a wood color.. Wouldn't be tissue paper or it will soon be smoldering and catching on fire. And it has two legs up so it recently flopped down.
