When I first saw this portrait of Io Day I thought, “Great, another Halloween picture.” Strangely it’s dated midnight, December 8, 1947. We’ll probably never know the story behind this, so I’ll just say “Happy Halloween.”
I’ll add a reminder that you’re all invited to an “opening” of an Alva Day exhibit at the museum this Sunday, November 3, 2-5PM. At 3PM Matt and I will be talk about the photo project, followed at 3:30 by Aaron Nice, who will be reprising his Cemetery Tales role as Alva Day. Admission is free, so come on down and join us.

It has never been hard to recognize Alva’s wife Io in his photos.
She was not a small woman.
Certainly not built like Alva.
But, evidently, she was always willing to be photographed and I’m not sure I have ever seen a photo of her that she isn’t smiling.
I’ve looked at the "camping at Lost Lake" photos and thought that could not have been easy vacation for her.
But she did it.
I suspect she laughed a lot.
As for this photo…..as Charlott says….what can one say?.
But, I’m glad you did not ignore it.

I might add that both Alva and Io were born August of 1887 so they would have been 60 years old when this photo was taken.
I wonder, what was the significance of midnight?

Oh! I am so glad that you posted this picture today Arthur. Carly and I have looked at this image so many times….and it just makes me smile. I feel like Io and I would have been good friends had I had the opportunity to know her. Kindred spirits and all:)

Can’t imagine how this would have tied in, but December 7 was the attack on Pearl Harbor. America officially entered into war with Japan on December 8. The Days were no doubt aware of that?

But then again the war was well over. Can’t find anything else important on that date. Their anniversary?

Just googled it, strangely it was a Monday night. This may be a photo, after a few drinks, they never dreamed anyone else would be seeing.

I’m glad people are enjoying this one. I was hesitant to share a more "intimate" moment, but I think her personality really shines through.
How is it possible no one has commented on the cat???
