Here’s another Century Farm citation, presumably from 2001:
Wells Century Farm: The Wells Century Farm was started by the grandfather of those pictured here. They are growing pears, apples, cherries and peaches in the Hood River Valley.

No, not started by grandfather, but great-grandfather, which happened to be mine, also. Great-grandfather , Jerome Wells, came down off the hills behind ,when he purchased this land in 1901. He had homesteaded above, but land was no good due to being so rocky and water being at a premium. In order to support his family he purchased a reaper and worked for the farmers in the valley until he was able to purchase valley farm land.
