Notes

I had to push this Alva Day negative quite a bit to make it readable, but it’s a fun view from his house at 420 June Street in February 1917. We’re looking to the NW. The large house under the large tree is at the SW corner of 7th and May Street. It is still there.

While you can’t make it out at this resolution, I think I can see the fire siren tower at Waucoma Park, just north of Montello at about 9th.

Looks like a Christmas post card, except for the big power pole, which Alva probably made a special effort to include it in the photo.

Grew up just south of the large house, great area to be a kid, now being filled in.

We lived on June St, just west of 4th, and moved from there to 7th & Pine. That was in the mid-50's and into the 1970's. Both locations were very close to my long-time friend, Jim Gray, with the above posting. I agree with his comments.

Alva Day is my Great Grandfather. It’s really amazing to be able to look back at his photos and get a real feel of what kind of a man he was. Thanks to Hood River for keeping this website up and running so others can enjoy his passion.

Alva Day was my grandfather. I remember being there, at the house on June St.
There was a grape arbor in the back and he had put swings on for us kids. What fun we had.. He had a big garden next door.
    Love looking at these pictures
    Thank You
