Notes
We have a nice collection of very faded logging prints with “AJ Shepler” scrawled on the back of each in large script. Fiddling with the knobs to try to reverse the fading usually also amplifies the noise in the image, so while it makes for a more readable view it isn’t pretty. This one was a big surprise. After a few minutes adjustment this barely visible scan came back to life. It’s about as clean and sharp as you could hope for from a 120 year old print.
My first guess was AJ is the man to the left, but notes seem to indicate he is towards the middle of the image. The guy standing on the log to the left would be my second choice.
Notes date the image to 1900. We saw AJ as an infant in this 1882 tintype.

Hand tools haven’t changed much in 120 years, just the saw.

Interesting. The guy on the log with the mustache would be my guess. He looks like the ornierest one. Never saw loggers with shovels before. But would guess they maybe needed them to dig choker holes under the logs because of the flat ground. Another thing I always notice is that loggers are never fat. We get that way when we quit though. Used to eating too much good food. Always enjoy your logging pictures.

Ties, vests, shirts buttoned to the neck? Was this just for the picture?
Longshot
The suspenders worn by the guy on the left don’t appear to be connected to his pants. Maybe he just hung them over his shoulders for the picture. His tie is also odd with its square cut end.
Maybe a bit of a dandy?
