This is identified as “Home of Robert Rand, who crossed the plains in 1859. West of city.”
Robert Rand owned the Wau Gwin Gwin Hotel, which was replaced with the Columbia Gorge Hotel. This story of his crossing the plains in 1859 is worth a read. The story is told in three parts, so you’ll have to follow the links to the two succeeding issues of The Hood River Glacier.

So similar to my home here in HRiver, but maybe not, this may be an earlier edifice built elsewhere. My home was built by ‘Bobby Rand’, I do believe, in 1905, bottom of Rand Rd….,you know that big old yellow home….,been there for a hundred and fourteen years….

James, this could very well be your home. The basic shape is correct. While it’s been remodeled over the years, usually there is some architectural detail or ornament which gives it away. Is your chimney shaped the same? Does it have the widow’s walk? Or maybe those features under the eaves?

Looks a lot like the house at the bottom of the curve on Frankton. That would have been an easy distance from the hotel.

Definitely not my home on Rand Rd., @L it does look like that house at the bottom of the curve on Frankton. The details as Arthur mentioned are quite different than my house.

I have to agree, the house on Frankton shares many details with this house. The chimney has been moved, but it still has the widow’s walk. The front porch is slightly different but it could have been rebuilt in 100 years. I’ll need to drive by to see if any of the ornamental detail still exist.

I know my 2x great grandpa bought land from Robert Rand (uncle inlaw) and he was by the Frankton School. Makes sense it would be located at the bottom.

Lucy Rand, the sister and my great grandmother, who also moved to Hood River with her second husband, William Bill Boorman. Her first husband we do not know much about. Her oldest son is from that marriage, although he goes by Boorman. I think the first husband is McRanles. We would like to know more.
