Notes

This crate of game birds is ready to be opened so the birds can find a new home in this orchard. One of the major tasks of the Game Protective Association was to raise and release game birds in the valley. Of course Alva Day, an officer of the organization, documented every stage of the process.

I wonder if the California quail flock which does such a great job cleaning up around my fruit trees is descended from some of these birds?

At one time, HR like the west end of the Gorge, had farms with grain crops, which supported pheasants. When I was growing up, the cackle of a pheasant was a common sound. Now you have to go east to the wheat country.
