Here we see an early wooden truss bridge across the mouth of the Hood River. We’re looking up the river, and you can make out the bridge which carried the state road across the river just upstream. Either supports for a new bridge just downstream are being constructed, or they are left over from an even earlier bridge. My guess is those are the supports for the slightly newer bridge we saw in this picture.

Has to be a summer time photo, with the river that low. No doubt it went hrough a cut there and the area where those outbuildings are was eventually taken off. My guess is that the buildings are part of the Button farm. I wonder how many total number of bridges have actually been built across that portion of the river, traffic and railroads.

I think this is the best photo of the Button Farm buildings we have seen.
It appears that there are no leaves on the trees.
Which would make this photo late fall through early spring.
I think the fall of 1896 was a rainy one and the winter was a bitterly cold winter, which would mean the river would be frozen.
I wonder if there could be a splash dam up the river holding back water?

Could very well be a photo by Lily White and Sarah Ladd, as they were all up and down that river. I have seen a picture of Lily White’s riverboat. Maybe the museum has a copy of it????
