Historic Hood River
“Quaint Interior of Cloud Cap Inn”

Notes
The image from am H.C. White Co. stereoview published in 1903. The caption says, “Quaint interior of Cloud Cap Inn, Mt. Hood, Oregon.” Check out some of the details: calling cards tacked to the ceiling beam, a pair of binoculars hanging from the wall, and paper fans with what appear to be Japanese imagery.

The stones in the fireplace are pretty amazing.
I was looking for information about the photographer H.C. White. I came across this same photo with the following description:
“Built in 1889 on Mount Hood's northeast shoulder, Cloud Cap Inn was reached by railroad from Hood River, and then a several hour stagecoach ride. It was designed by the same firm that designed the Forestry Building for the Lewis and Clark Exposition in 1905.
Mountain guide services departed from the Inn to climb Mt. Hood's northern slopes. The business cards visible sticking to the beams and ceiling are from climbers who successfully made it to the summit. The woman on the right appears to be Sarah Langille, who managed the inn from 1891 through 1907.”
H.C. White Co.
Founded by Hawley C. White and his two sons Harrie C. and Clarence W. White in 1870 in New York City to make stereoscopes. The company moved to North Bennington in 1874. The factory burned in 1887 and was speedily rebuilt; it was expanded in 1907. The two White sons worked as photographers and traveled the world taking pictures for stereographs.
