To add to the history of the Augusts (Guignard and Bosse) here is a photo with an explanation provided by someone who knew the family. I’ll share the text verbatim as I’m not 100% sure of the interpretation. I suspect English wasn’t the writer’s first language.
One first Ideal apple Grader by Guignard. people in picture Fred Rosiger, Mary Guignard, John Guignard, August Guignard, Laura Guignard (Bosse), young man?, William Maire, 2 ladies unknown by me. Strawberry patch and picker in early years on Guignard Ranch.
I take this to mean the caption was provided in later years by someone who had worked picking strawberries and apples on the Guignard Ranch. This certainly is an important piece of Hood River history, and we’re lucky to have an account by someone who was there.
I think William Maire may have been Mary (Maire) Guignard’s brother. Laura Guignard Bosse was August and Mary Guignard’s daughter, and August Bosse’s wife. This was truly a family business.

William Maire was a younger brother of Mary Guignard. He had 5 children along with his wife Cecilia.
As to the Fred Rosiger he was born in Saxony (Sachsen) Germany in 1857 and died here in Hood River in 1947. He never married.He had a little place next to Guignard. In his later years he lived with the Guignard son John.
