Notes

The Museum may be closed to visitors right now as a new exhibit is being readied, but Erica has selected some interesting items from our collection for you to visit virtually. This is item 88.011.001, which tells me it was entered into the museum database in 1988. It’s described in our database as “Shoes: High topped, laced, kid, spool heels. Originally from Paris Fair department store in Hood River. Black.” The database also records which box on which shelf in the museum archives it was placed into in 2001, and let’s us know it was verified to be there by the museum director in a 2009 inventory.

The style looks like the shoes in Paris Fair ads from about 1905. It’s hard to imagine walking the muddy, uneven street of Hood River in those shoes, but it’s clear they’ve seen some wear.

I wonder what everyday item of mine will be the subject of curiosity in 120 years?

Women in the 70’s stuffed their toes into pointy toed shoes. Fashion knows no boundaries! They even wore them to work! They paid for it later .. bad toes or back problems.
