A simple arch. Used to lift one end of logs off ground . Used when yarding logs a long ways as you could travel with a lot bigger turn of logs. Mostly used on relatively flat ground and in bigger timber.
Kenn
An example why the crawler arch replaced the wheeled arch.
Longshot
Odd that there is no timber or even stumps visible in the background, but just grassy looking hills.

Could it be a log yard on the river bottom?
Kenn
My guess is a sales demonstration. I see no reason to go over the short log unless to demonstrate the advantage of tracks over wheels. The early arches had tall wheels but the 10 to 12” wheels I have seen would have been stopped by this.
Kenn
Meant to say above 10 to 12 foot wheels on an early arch, not 10 to 12 inch. There are good examples at Collier Park logging museum on hwy 97 just north of Chiloquin..

Just a bump in the road to this crawler.
