This Alva Day image shows something being blown up, but I can’t make out what it is. You can tell we’re in a power line right-of-way, and there are some platform structures down near the road. Any ideas?
I don’t have a clue as to what is going on, but know the location. I can’t say for certain whether this is Eastside grade going down or Highline. If you look straight across you can see where Indian Creek comes down and the houses along the hill top, looks pretty much the same.
I am wondering if they aren’t blasting to put the power line through that area?

Looking at powerlines to Panorama Point, east side of HR in middle ground, Underwood Mtn in back, one of irrigation ditches in foreground in front of frames for tent cabins for pickers? Blowing stump/rock/hole for new power pole?
Norma
Looking at the houses on the right side of the picture I think the two story house is where Al and Maude Peters lived and the house to the right of it was the Jack Travis place when I was growing up. I don’t know what years Alva Day was taking pictures but my parent’s house would have been between those two houses. My parents built their house is 1940.
Marilyn
I see a house in the woods behind the sunlit tree on the right.

Wow, everyone is finding all kinds of neat stuff. I would guess blowing stumps, since there is a stump lying nearby and it is not a very big boom. Although it looks like some pretty good chunk of rock flying up into the air.
Could the platforms be a roadside summer camping spot?

Norma is right – that white house is where my grandfather Albert (Al) Peters lived with Maude. I remember your house Norma – I got to visit once.
