Historic Hood River
Limited Access, Under Construction!

Notes
Just as access to the bridge was limited while workers refurbished the Hood River White Salmon Interstate Bridge in 1951, access will be limited to Historic Hood River for the next few days. This evening I will be turning off new comments and new posts so the website doesn’t change while we move it over to a new platform. It will probably take a couple of days to complete the transfer, so don’t be too surprised if there isn’t a new post Monday morning. But rest assured HHR will return shortly! Check this space for updates.
The engine underlying Historic Hood River hasn’t had a major upgrade for 12 years. Development and maintenance on the engine ended shortly after HHR’s inaugural post in 2011, so I’ve had to patch the code to keep up with the changing world of the internet. I decided to take advantage of the History Museum’s transition to a new website to migrate HHR to a modern, fully supported platform.
In the short term you’ll see a site which looks very similar, but with some more modern touches. All the old posts and comments will still be there at the same URL, so all your links should work. We’ve added some small features, like a list of recently added comments so you can see what people are saying about other images no matter what you are looking at. Mobile access should be significantly improved, and I think the site should be more responsive overall. But the real benefits will come later. Since this new platform is easier to program, I can get to work on the improvements you’ve asked me for. We can talk more about those later, but for now, when the site is back up, please let me know any bugs you run across so we can squash them. Duplicate comments, broken links… I want to clean it up quickly and get to work on new features.

Thank you Arthur for all of you volunteer work on this project. I am excited to see the new features.

Arthur, I echo LE’s comment.

I love checking in every weekday morning to the HHR posts. Thanks for all you do Arthur!

Arthur….will the new features allow us to delete a post so we can correct our spelling. 😊

I did not grow up in Oregon so I am unable to comment about most of the images. But I do love seeing the images and reading through the comments of those who did. Thank you Arthur for all you do to share these images with us!

Thank you Arthur, and hurry back. This site is so much a part of my daily routine and pleasure and have learned so much about my home territory.
So glad they are fixing the bridge. I counted 62 ‘clacks’ as I crossed this week.
I assume those are breaks in the welding.

Nels, I never thought to count.
Welding that bridge back together is not a job I would want.
