Definitely the young Floyd Mason that I knew as a old man. Floyd was very active in the Pine Grove Grange when I was growing up. He and his wife Elsie lived on what was called "Highline Road." Think it is still called that. Goes off Eastside as it starts down the grade to town.
From the position of the hill behind I think they are actually on Mason Road.

From the looks on their faces it is as if dad said "Get in the car. We are going to drive around the orchard."

Anybody else remember the traditional Sunday afternoon drive around and dropping in on the grandparents house – preceded by the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, green beans, and pie dinner?
Jeffrey Bryant
I remember going on orchard drives with Grandpa Walter Wells. Some of his orchard might even be in this photo.

Whenever we visited my grandfather from 1948 – 1965 we ALWAYS had to take the tour and drive around the orchards.

Generally on Sunday we would take a drive, not necessarily around Hood River though. It was a common practice if you dropped in on someone anywhere around meal time you were invited and even urged to remain for Sunday dinner. It was easy to "throw another potato in the pot." I recall numerous times when we had drop ins and they remained for Sunday dinner. Lots of time it was home made chicken and noodles and I mean they were made from scratch. Those were the days…………..my mouth still waters.

The young man standing on the sideboard has some type of bandage or splint on his middle finger. Probably got kicked when cranking the car!

They all look VERY WARM and are wishing they had a cold drink about now! None of them look very happy to take this drive.

The sloped windshield indicates this is a 1913 Model T Ford.

Thanks for the auto ID Jann. Good to see Mason’s orchard was doing well enough for him to afford a new car. I notice it has an after market speedometer on it too. Can’t imagine he could get going fast enough on the local roads to need it.
