Notes
It took me a minute to recognize this spot, but fortunately the old paint showing through on the “Horseshoers” building gives it away. We’re looking to the WNW accriss 4th Street at what was in earlier times the City Blacksmith shop. You even see Johnny Nicholson’s name in the old paint. This is now the site of Double Mountain Brewery.
Not sure exactly what these men are doing, but they’re at the site of the Elks parking lot, which in those days was where Alva Day and company stored their electric poles. Perhaps the electrical apparatus is a crane to help move around the large poles.

Not sure why, but I really like this photo.
Familiar scenery with several decades of history involved.
I don’t know what the tongs are called that the guy on the right is holding, but I have seen them used to skid logs.

Looks like they have what they need to move small poles around. Doubt if the guy on the far right knows what to do with the peavy he is holding, but he got in the picture.

Always interesting at the dress of the day. Must wear a hat, usually a hat and preferably a vest no matter what. Now it’s Carhartts or jeans and a baseball hat.

The guy on the right is holding what was known as a "swede hook", at least locally. A man on each end of that thing could drag a considerable pole or timber around.
