Historic Hood River
Hood River Valley

Notes
This 1910 Benjamin Gifford image of the Hood River Valley shows some young orchards. The diagonal feature in the foreground appears to be irrigation ditch and pipes. On the very left border you can see some slash piles burning where they are clearing more forest for orchard land.

Hopefully we get a comment on location?

Looks like the proverbial shot from the butte, minus the red barn that must have come along later.

I was wondering if these are mostly apple trees which were later replanted to pear trees.

Yes, in 1910 the main fruit export was apples. We know people also grew cherries, peaches, prunes, and even almonds, but apples was the major commercial export.

My guess is the Crag Rat Hut.
