Notes
How did dogs learn to pose for portraits? This good boy is only a couple of generations into the era of cameras in the home, but he knows exactly what to do.
Enjoy the holiday season, take lots of pictures, and don’t forget to include dogs and children.

From tags I’m guessing this picture from the Laraway glass plates?? Do you have any more information, Arthur? Interesting background canvas (?) and material in boys’ ties.

Ah yes, I should have mentioned it was a Laraway photograph. He took many family portraits. If I were better at recognizing faces I would be able to give a date based on the age of the children, but all his young family members look the same to me!

Wonderful dog.
Brothers Seth and Percy Laraway are close in age, but their oldest sister Cora Laraway Cooper had a son close in age to Thurston Laraway, the youngest brother.
But looking at this photo https://www.hoodriverhistorymuseum.org?showimage=2670 well, as Arthur says…..all the young family members look alike.

the dog is saying, look it didn’t take me hours to get a hair cut, comb my hair and get dressed……;GREAT picture!!! dogs are truly humans best friends. Arlen

I love this picture!! It’s as if the dog just knows the serious, solemn pose needed to provide the gravitas needed in this picture. At least the dog is looking towards the photographer. I don’t know what the two boys are looking at, maybe they were told to pose that way?
ArthurB
kmb, I think everyone was following instruction. Group portraits of that era frequently have subjects looking in different directions. I guess the "look at the camera" school of photography hadn’t yet been born.

That’s no little dog. If you extrapolate from the head size and shoulder width,
that’s a BIG dog, And serious about his job of taking care of his charges.

Definitely "say cheese" hadn’t been born.
