That piano was the television, stereo, and internet all rolled into one. At that time, pianos were in such high demand that an entire chunk of Boston (in the South End) is still known as “the piano district” from all the factories that sprang up to satisfy the demand.

there is light at the bottom on the window.

I think the hanging stuff on picture railings are drying bunches of herbs. I hang herbs kind of like that to dry them at the end of the season.

Looks to be pre-electricity. The lamp hanging from the ceiling would be oil, the lamp on the table to the right would be oil. There are several candles. But I can't figure out if that is some type of lamp, in the center of the picture, in front of the window, with what appears to be a white, ruffled lampshade? And is there a fireplace in the lower left corner of the picture?
