Historic Hood River
Hood River Meadows Resort Site
2-2-2022

Notes
Here’s another view of the Mt. Hood Loop Highway in the 1920s, courtesy ODOT. As you can see it is described as the Hood River Meadows Resort Site. In that area the original loop highway was a bit to the west of the current alignment. There is an abandoned piece of the old highway between Hood River Meadows and Sahalie Falls which is worth a visit. You can read more about this section of highway in Tom Kloster’s fine blog.
I don’t know anything about an historic resort, but there are remains of an old campsite near the old highway just off the entrance road to the ski resort. None of the old maps show a “resort” at this site.

Could this be Arthur’s Model-T truck?

Lots of interesting detail. Seems like the car should be dusty rather than shiny.

Hood River Meadows is near the Mount Hood Meadows Nordic Center parking.
The actual site of MHM is further up , just above Umbrella falls (which sits, unfortunately, just below the main parking lot, so you can imagine all the stuff that funnels into it) As a 9 or 10 yr old (so about "˜66 or "˜67) I remember our family, along with other Crag Rat families, hiking up to where they were hoping to build this new ski area.
In my 15 yrs ("˜76-"˜93) with the USFS, on the Road crew, I got to check out stuff like this. There was and still is, I think, a camp ground in the trees in the right side of this pic. There were also remains 1 or 2 old cabins and horse corrals in there. I love those old sections of the MH loop Hwy.

Thanks Beth!
