Notes

This W.F. Laraway view of the passenger space on the steamer Dalles City gives a good feel of what it would have been like to travel on this ship.

That seems a rather odd place to have a bell. Maybe it wasn't this ships bell, transporting it as freight. Wish it was possible to read what it says over the freight door. I wonder if they possibly transported horses and buggies through that door. Does anyone know?

Wondering if the two men in identical hats are not employed to the boat?

I think the sign says: Dogs must be kept on the leash.

If you click the tag for Dalles_City, there are some good photos.

Nellie, the ships bell was located forward and out of the way, above the main deck as cargo was loaded/unloaded quite often from the bow.

Close, JKG– While the sign is partially obscured it's definitely about dogs, but it says, “Dogs must be kept on the lo(wer deck)”

I think this ship is in a lock

Algo……thanks for pointing that out…probably Cascade Locks? one of the interesting parts of river cruising is opening ones drapes and finding a concrete wall just, and I mean just, outside the window.
