The volunteers of the fire department have gathered for dinner at the station. It looks like the man to the right of the tree has had a little too much eggnog.

I think they are having a meeting, due to the number of books and papers on the table. Possibly it was a boring meeting, at least to the man by the Christmas tree. At least with all the huge ash trays they have, they are well aware of potential fire. Love the old time Christmas trees, the ones you went to the woods and chopped down yourself, with its branches going every which way. Doesn’t look like they got too elaborate with their decorations, just light and some tinsel. At least they did put up a tree.
I am quite certain the man on the far left is Jim Edstrom and next to him is Ken Jernstedt. Maybe some one else can fill in names for some of the others.

Well I will stick up for the sleeping gentleman. I think he was out on a late night fire and stayed to keep watch while everyone else went home.
Who are in the photographs on the wall?

Photos are no doubt of prior fire chiefs, at least that would be my guess.

And the hanging banner with the stars? a WW II memorial? or ? The last word above the banner looks like Oregon. Arthur, does the museum have this item? Norma or JoAnn can probably name all these fellows as they were our parents contempories. Appears that Jim is runnning the meeting as he has the gavel in his hand. Certainly an era when smoking was the thing to do…….

This looks like the upstairs of the present city hall with the big windows, so that might be former city mayors. Anybody recognize anybody?

I guess it is a meeting, not Christmas dinner. There were photos of a dinner in the same space, but maybe that happened after the meeting The tree is where Cindy”s office is now in Planning. Dan is right, almost every HRFD picture from the era include a bottle of Seagrams. Finally, the plaque above the banner was from the battleship Oregon. I don’t know the significance.

Looks like the December business meeting for the Volunteers, if it was anything like the meetings I attended, the whisky bottles have all ready made a few rounds around the room, Jim Meyer who was the Chief is the only face I can ID for sure.

Can hardly wait to see what you all submit – my grandfather was an orchard isn’t there and I spent many a wonderful holiday in Hood River! I visit all the time as many of the family is at Idlewilde.

The banner with stars on it is still in the fire departmetn’s possession here at the Ty Taylor station. Not sure of its meaning, but we do still have it!

My two cents. Left to right is Jim Edstrom, president. Bob Samuel, secretary. Jim Meyer, chief. Buck Dean asleep, took the lst drop of theSeagrams (the cap on the bottle never returned after it was removed). Bill Richardson,. Unknown for the next two, I’ll get later. Far right is Bud Fleek, engineer. Yes, the starred flag represents those who left the Dept. to serve in WW II. The wall behind the tree seperated the city engineering dept. from the FD meeting room and now is Cindy Wallbridge, planning director’s office. Many more tales ca be told of the activities in this room through the years since 1921.
