Here we have Bradford, Clyde, and Augustus Bonney with baby Rex. Clyde was a city councilman in 1898, and owned the “Reciprocity Corner” store at the corner of Second and Oak.
The elder Augustus Bonney was the namesake for Bonney Meadow and Bonney Butte. We learned more about Clyde and Augustus in this early post of an Anne Lang portrait.

A very interesting family, especially in the early development of Oregon. Bradford Bonney was on the first wagon train to cross the Sierra Nevada Mtns. in 1845. He was also one of the first people to pack from California to Oregon in 1846. He was one of the first to have a boat on the Willamette River in 1847.
Rex Bonney served in WWI and was only 41 years old when he died in Hood River, but was buried in The Dalles with other family members.

Clyde had a brother Bradford Silas, but this photo matches Bradford Sherwood.
As Charlott says, the Bonney family is an interesting family. Not only in the development of Oregon, but also Washington. Samuel Sherwood Bonney and family were influential in the settlement of the Puget Sound area.
They all suffered their trials as early pioneers.
In 1919 Rex has returned home from France, WWI and is visiting his Aunt Susie Moore in Hood River.
Rex is listed as a veteran and disabled. Since he died fairly young, I wonder if he was gassed while serving in Europe?

Take the hike up to Bonney Butte sometime. Especially when they are tagging raptors.

Bradford’s brother Charles Truman, had a son Ralph Ruben Bonney, who was the saddle maker in The Dalles. He was in partnership with Henry Kuck. That partnership was passed on, to sons Ernie Kuck and Garth Bonney.
I just picked up a book at Klindt’s Book Store in The Dalles.
"Remembering Ernie Kuck". Lots of history about The Dalles area and the man who left a sizable amount of money to the Columbia Gorge Center/Wasco County Museum.
