The far end of the trestle is at I-84, that track bed can still be seen passing under I-84 twice before going around Memaloose viewpoint that is seen on top. The track being used for the new fill is 3′ and will be finalized with 4′ 81/2" standard guage as seen at left. The far end of this curved fill is the beginning of the long straight bed pictured here earlier.

Kenn, all due respect because you ARE THE MAN when it comes to RR grade alignments….but….I think this photo is from directly underneath the Memaloose rest stop on I-84. Here: 45.697166°, -121.337326° . I happened to have walked down there a few times this past summer, for "work", and I had wondered what had spanned that curved pond on the original 1882 alignment. You taught me well to ponder the 1882 alignment 🙂
Kenn
Scott, sure likes to meet you there to compare notes, the pond you mention I believe is the one has been pictured here recently. Note the difference in grade levels ~

More evidence that the gorge has been blasted and changed for many years.

I could still see pilings for this trestle when I-84 (then I-80N) opened but now all that is seen from the road is a brush line. I planned to go down to look for remains but crossing four lanes of traffic and a concrete wall dampened my enthusiasm..

Since the burn that happened below and moving east from Memaloose – the old main line bed is very evident and can be walked, right up to the cliff over the pond that is there now… I stared off that edge wondering how long the trellis would have needed to be – this image clears it up!
