Historic Hood River
Cherry Tree
11-19-2021

Notes
I just assumed this was another apple tree picture, but closer examination shows a nice crop of cherries. I don’t know if they were grown commercially at the Laraway Cooper orchards or if they were for local use. We know cherries were canned at the local packing houses by 1918. This tree could use a good hard pruning.
I suspect this tree was near the base of Van Horn Butte, where the Laraways and Coopers owned an orchard.

The pruning, or not, just emphasizes how valuable the OSU Extension Service has been and is to agriculture. Just imagine how much greater the crop would be with proper pruning, not to mention surviving adverse weather.
