Notes
This image is described as a Hood River Ski Club even in the early 1920s, possibly the first ski race. The location is listed as “Goldsbury Ranch,” though I’m not familiar with that location. Can anyone help?

I know it was up in the Parkdale area, but the actual name of it was "Gwan Gwor". I know it was owned by a man named Goldsbury and that is about all I can tell you…..

My Great Grandfather Olaf Severson was very involved with the early Hood River Ski club. Many people would gather at their home off Dee Hwy near Trout Creek Rd. This however is up in the valley off of Cooper Spur. After messing around with google earth a little it appears to be very close to Mt Shadows.

Bill, we have 105 scans from the HR Ski Club. This is the only one with D K Lamson listed as the photographer. We have another with him identified as a subject, and many images with clear faces but I can’t identify them.
The notable difference in the Ski Club images is that some of the skiers are women, which is not the case with any early Crag Rats images.

It looks an awful lot like Mike McCarthy’s place off of Cooper Spur Road… thinking that’s where I’d put my money with Shellrock and Millcreek Buttes in the background.

I believe this was the original name of Bob Lee’s place on Cooper Spur Rd. I don’t know when he acquired it, but probably in the 60’s. He was a Portland banker, and was well know as an explorer and collector. I met him in 1974. He had a small gallery addition to the house for his artifacts.The property is now owned by the McCarthy family. On google maps the house is in the clearing just below where it says Roaring Springs Camp, another significant historical site.
