Notes
We have many collections of photos from events that are probably of no interest to anyone, but occasionally one of the images stands out for other reasons. I am sure none of you care much about the Northwest Rivers and Harbors Conference hosted in Hood River, but if you are, be assured we have a dozen images capturing the event in painful detail. I like this check-in image, though, because it is very evocative of a time (1950?). I’m not sure who the men are in the portraits, but each has dates associated with it. Some have a black band indicating the person was deceased. Perhaps the portraits are of leaders of whatever fraternal organization lent its facilities to this event.

This is the Elks building. Why I know this is from the portraits. I see my Grandpa Wells, who served as a whatever the Elks call their president. His photo is directly above the center woman.

They look like they are voting on something, turning their voted ballot over, registered, and then stacked in the box someway to be eventually counted.

It is an interesting photo. I looked up Rivers and Harbors Act. Wikipedia says it goes back to the early 1800’s. Then down through the years there is an act for a certain year. Some were for dams, some were for flood control.
The lady on the left and the lady in the middle look similar.

Thank goodness high heels were going out of style by the time I reached adulthood.

I think the lady second from the left might have had the last name Allen. Where did I know her from. I want to say the library, but not sure. The first name Nell sticks in my mind, but can’t be certain about that either. Know she was not married.

Didn’t Nell Allen work at the Port of Hood River/Chamber of Commerceoffice in the early 60s?
