Historic Hood River
Koberg Beach, circa 1900

Notes
I believe this beach view predates the establishment of Koberg’s Beach. Based on the clothing I’m guessing this is about 1900.
In case you don’t realize how daring these women are, read this entry from the Hood River Glacier:
Mayor Dumble has appointed the custodian of the new swimming pool a special policeman with authority and instructions to arrest any male annoyer who may choose to visit the place of recreation on afternoons set aside for the gentler sex. It is to be regretted that any such action ever became necessary. The swimming pool will give its greatest pleasure to women and small children, too timid to visit the beach on the Columbia. Any annoyer should be severely punished.

To date, my favorite historical picture, with notes.

And I bet the ladies’ bathing suits didn’t leave much open for the annoying male to view.
This must have been some type of celebration day?
Neat photo. Not as colorful as today’s photos with the colorful kites and sails, but still shows a happy summer day on the HR beaches.

My guess is the 4th of July since they have a flag with them.

Probably cooling off their feet after walking the parade route in those old heels of the day. Great picture. And no men allowed. Wonder who took the picture?
