I don’t know the exact location of this January 1947 image, but I suspect someone will recognize it. It looks like on of the Pacific Power trucks has broken down alongside the road.
I am guessing this is on the west side of the valley, since it is PPand L. I think the east side would have had Hood River Electric Co-op by then. Not certain though………

Not only grey….looks downright cold.
James
Ehrck Hill Dr. comes to mind, heading east out of Odell. Just a guess!!
Dan
I’m going with Frankton Rd.
charlott
No curve at the bottom of Ehrck Hill. I am inclined to believe it looks more like Frankton Hill, curve at bottom is correct.
nels
First thing that comes to mind is Ehrck Hill but doesn’t quite look steep enough. Is that small barn in the foreground still there?
Dan
I think that house on the right is actually still there.
Micki
This is Dethman Ridge Road coming up the hill from the West side. Travelled it way too many times to not know!! The barn at the very top right is still there.
Micki
The more I look at the picture, it could be Ehrck Hill coming from the West. And it quite possibly could be Frankton, only Frankton is steeper than that.
spinsur
all along it said Dethman Ridge to me…
Dan
Winter sun location doesn’t seem correct for Dethman Ridge.
Arthur
This photo was taken at 10:30 AM, if that helps. Google street views doesn’t cover Dethman Ridge Road or Ehrck Hill Road, so we might have to actually visit the spot to see.
steve
Poles on both sides of the road – does not that seem odd… ?
Brian
I’m finding it difficult to picture where the sun is, but from what looks like shadows of the trucks up the road, the sun is to the left. At 10:30 am, that would imply that we are looking west. I’m thinking it might be Binns Hill.
Brian
The view from Frankton School is still a good possibility.
James
But from Frankton School you would see May St. coming in on the left side. And it is not there, so not Frankton Rd.
Dan
are we sure there was a May St. intersection back then? I sure wish someone would figure this one out. It’s starting to drive me nuts.

I don’t know HR very well, but my first thought when I opened this photo up, was Frankton Rd. Not sure why.
Brian
I took a drive up Frankton and the curve there is not as sharp as the one pictured. It could have been smoothed out at a later date.
Another option is Dethman Ridge, coming west from 35.
charlott
This is driving me crazy also. That house up there on the left makes me somewhat remember a house like that on the west side of Dethman Ridge. Now I think it is Dethman on the Odell side of the hill…………..
Steve
I think it is Belmont st headed west from about the area of Westside school
l.e.
Could it be above Tucker Bridge on the way to Odell? It looks like there is the beginning of a gully to the left of the barn. That might offer a clue.
I’m not so sure but what there isn’t a road entering at the top of the hill. That might be what the front porch of the house is facing onto. Also there seems to be a building off to the left, before entering the trees which would be along that road.
Are those pine or fir trees? Could that offer a clue as to what side of the valley?
Dan
Drove up Frankton on the way home this afternoon. The house on the right which I thought was still there is gone and a new home sits in it’s place. So no help at all. I still like Frankton though.
Craig McCurdy
Willow Flat Rd. but that would be a lot of power poles for that location at that time.
Brian
I drove Dethman Ridge (both directions) and Binns Hill today and am fairly certain that neither of them are it. I took some photos of Dethman Ridge and the two houses if anyone wants to compare.
Any thoughts about where the sun is positioned? That would give some clues. It looks to me that there are shadows from the trucks on the road, which would mean the road is looking west, or possibly south at 10:30 am in January.
Mauro
It is ehrck hill, grandes has the Same location photo.

An answer to a long time mystery???? It seems like over time, the mysteries here get solved.
val
I am thinking Webster drive, goes between dethman ridge and ehrck hill..
