Notes

We saw this postcard view of 12th Street looking north quite a while ago, but I just rediscovered the original photograph used to make the card. It looks like they’ve stripped some trees to make utility poles but haven’t gotten around to installing the wires yet. This looks very much like this 1896 view of the same spot, with the addition of the pole.

Too often I take our scenery for granted. I know we don't really have this view any more from 12th street, but there are glimpses, and if you go up on the top level of the hospital parking garage there is good view.

Gorgeous. They used a fairly long focal length lens to get the mountain to look that large back there.

Spring time shot with a fruit tree blooming down the hill.

Long shadows of poles. Electric or telephone?

Is the photo above cropped from the original? Compared to the postcard, the view here looks to be a short distance further north than the postcard view (i.e. the foreground on the postcard is missing in the view above). Or perhaps there was another photo taken the same time as this one, except further south, that was used as the basis for the postcard?

kmb, I think they are different croppings from the same negative. The shadows and perspective match otherwise, they just show different amounts of foreground.

Do you know the date of this photo? My Dad was born in a home at 12th and May in 1913.
