This image came from a fun mini-album put together by A. J. Fletcher of Vancouver, WA, to remember his 1902 visit to “Wild West Camp” at Lost Lake. Even back then city folk needed to get away from it all.

Sounds like a replay of a Wild West Camp at Lost Lake would be quite fun.

The Thomas J Fletcher donation land claim was next to where I grew up. He had a son Arthur J, but I don’t think he was a photographer.
There was an A.J. Fletcher in the early 1900’s who had lived in the area where my husband grew up. He had a plane fall into his prune orchard in 1928 but I can’t find anything about him taking photos.
I don’t think I would consider Vancouver, WA "city" in 1902. The town area was small and lots of rural area surrounded it. But, the mountains held an attraction. It seems like they still do. The Portland/Vancouver area likes to travel to the mountains for an outing.
Or the beach.

and as grandfather John H. "preached" as County Judge…paving the road to Lost Lake will just attract a hoard of city dwellers from Portland thus ruining it…I often wonder what he and his son (my father), John L. would think of their town today. (written as a member of the "hoard")
