Notes

Continuing on the road with Olga Plog, August 16, 1924: They left Big Pines and made it to Crater Lake National Park. There’s a postcard of the Crater Lake Lodge and a view of the very primitive road.

Learn how these features formed from the good folks at the Crater Lakes Institute.

Check back later to see where they spent the night.

I haven't looked at a map yet. Wondering, if Highway 97 was in existence in 1924 and what route they would have taken to Crater Lake.

They sure made some pretty good time in just one day. Must have gotten up early to hit the road.

Thanks Arthur for the two a day photos of the Plog trip through Oregon. Helps a little with the adjustment to this quarantine.

The route from the Dalles to Klamath Falls and on to California was one of the very early travel routes. I know it appears on early territorial maps, and they were probably following tribal trade routes.

Here's an 1860 map showing the major routes: https://oregonhistoryproject.org/media/uploads/bb011927_early_oregon.jpg
