The Easter Parade Is a Thing of the Past
4-15-2022

Notes
The Easter parade marketing tie-in seems a bit tenuous, but this is still a good view of the Pacific Power store window on Oak Street. It reminds us of all the great electric appliance we can buy. There are toasters, electric irons, mixers, waffle irons, and a lamp. Each one has a little sign explaining why it is superior to doing things the old way.

So what? But when the power goes down we are in the same situation as they were back then. I remember talking to an older couple from Christmas Valley who ranched and ran cattle for a bigger land owner. They could remember the first time that light bulb hanging from the ceiling first came on, and what an amazing event it was. But they still can do without power whenever it "goes down" as they still have the wood cookstove and kerosene lamps. Toasters and waffle irons must have been a luxury back then

I remember the PP&L windows from the 1950’s. They often had interesting displays there.

And Reddy Kilowatt was often seen here.

coming off the recent dump of "cascade concrete" of 5" here in Portland and 4 days without heat/light/internet…..my reliance on electricity is QUITE apparent and I VERY much appreciate PGE/ Boones Ferry Electric and today (sunday) Infinity workers, all, for putting me back into the 21st century. yes, my relationship with our trees is most definitely a love/hate relationship.
