Had not heard the term draw saw, only drag saw in my past, probably different terms in different areas.
Nellie
Not familiar with this man. He might be related to the Draper's at Mt. Hood, as they had Leasure's in their family.
Roger Sheldrake
Arlen: Help me out here! Didn't our grandfather John H. Sheldrake come to Oregon with some of the Leasure family? Isn't there a Leasure Road on the west side of Highway 35 north of Mt. Hood/Parkdale turn

Kenn– just a typo. Corrected to say “drag saw”.

Has anyone ever seen one of these in action? It looks huge, and heavy, but if it can cut a tree with muscle power I'm sure it was worth manhandling that thing.

A couple of years ago the High Desert Museum in Bend contacted me about our drag saw photos. They were preparing a display. We'll need to drop by to see if they have one set up.
Kyle
Is that a big splitting maul on the tree next to it?
Marla Prante
This is my grandpa Albert Leasure brother of Robert Leasure. There is a road named after Leasure. Also related to Drapers.Cosgrove.Prante

Thanks for the correction, Maria.
I'll note that just a few weeks later Robert Leasure's 20 year old son died of the influenza pandemic. The obituary says he died following an appendicitis operation. Not sure how that relates to influenza.
Jeffrey W Bryant
Elbert Vaughan, son of Cyrus Vaughan, both of Hood River, invented the Vaughan Drag Saw (Inventor of “Portable Drag-Saw Machine”, patent 1,165,298, issued Dec 21, 1915) while he was in Portland. He was president of Vaughan Motor Works in Portland. I'm not sure if this is one of his saws. Youtube has videos of the Vaughan Drag Saw in operation.
Kenn
Drag saws can be seen at the logging museum at Brooks, Collier Park logging museum on highway 97 and at Gordon Smith's camp 18, MP 18 on highway 26,
