Put Daylight in Your Kitchen
6-29-2021

Notes
I’m sure this electrified kitchen was ultramodern in its time. There are plenty of bright lights, a refrigerator, electric stove, toaster, waffle iron, coffee pot, and even a spare outlet to plug in your vacuum cleaner. The cupboard is stocked with canned green beans, a can of “tender melting peas”, cherry Jell-o, soda crackers, seedless raisins, and canned oysters. The upper left cabinet even seems to have a built in flour sifter.

We had a toaster like that!

My grandmother had a cupboard like that. The brand was Kitchen Queen.
Also, my house, built in 1912, originally had a maximum of 2 plug -ins per room. No plug-in in the bathrooms. A century ago, architects and builders clearly couldn’t imagine all these electric appliances, large and small. Interesting there’s no refrigerator in the display.

There is a cabinet unit like that in Cloud Cap Inn. It is natural wood, the counter has a xtra slide out like this one too.

I had been hunting for the refrigerator too!

and the weird table lamps……..we just had our third day of the PGE peak period usage reduction program here in Portland…..a program they recently launched to try to reduce usage during these heat events; we saved a whopping $1.81 last evening…..interesting how times change…..
and speaking of electrical outlets…..to some degree one can judge the quality of the hotel by the number of electrical outlets available

When I get up in the middle of the night, even though I have turned all lights off, I am amazed at how many lights are on. The oven, the microwave, the clock, the stove, the computer, etc. No total darkness.

Still have a toaster like that, but my favorite is a 1927 Toastmaster A1A, the first automatic. It was given to my parents as a wedding gift.in 1928.
