If their photo archives are any indication, the Agricultural Research Center did extensive experimentation throughout the 1910’s with methods and devices for pesticide and fungicide application. We have many images of “power dusting” taken by Mr. Childs in 1916, but this one gives the clearest view of the apparatus and its effect.

Love the sound of those old engines. Many of them kept alive by quite elderly gentlemen who must also have had an affection for them. Each one had a familiar rhythm, chug, and ‘cough’. Good to see them at the Dufur Threshing Celebration and occasional county fairs. Always an oil can nearby.
