Historic Hood River
Power Dusting, 1916
11-9-2012

Notes
If their photo archives are any indication, the Agricultural Research Center did extensive experimentation throughout the 1910’s with methods and devices for pesticide and fungicide application. We have many images of “power dusting” taken by Mr. Childs in 1916, but this one gives the clearest view of the apparatus and its effect.

Looks like a good crop of clover on the edge of the road.

Love the sound of those old engines. Many of them kept alive by quite elderly gentlemen who must also have had an affection for them. Each one had a familiar rhythm, chug, and ‘cough’. Good to see them at the Dufur Threshing Celebration and occasional county fairs. Always an oil can nearby.

Wonderful pictures Arthur! What a neat historical resource. And another place to see some of these engines is the annual Steam-Up in Brooks. Arlen
