There is so much to like about this image captioned “Pine Grove First Bus 1917.” The Oldsmobile is sitting in the middle of Oak Street at First. You can see the recently completed Mt. Hood Hotel Annex in the background to the left, and the Yasui Store to the right.
We have the names of many of the children: (left to right) Esther Krussow, ?, ?, ?, Frank Vannice, Zoe Scobee, Cleo Johnson, Edgar Krussow, ?, Harry Roberts, Jack Bagley (driver), Myrtle Jarvis, and Lavona Peterson.

I have a copy of this photo. The young man standing (tallest) in the back, white shirt with the open collar was my great-uncle by marriage. Marcus Cecil Thrane, married my gear-aunt Florence Clark. His father was Dr. Thrane. Esther and Edgar Krussow were brother and sister, Edgar was the father of one of my closest friends all through 12 years of school. Zoe Scobee was the daughter of Meta (Lage) Scobee. Myrtle Jarvis was the daughter of Joe and clara Jarvis who lived on Eastside Road.
My assumption that the "convertable" bus had a top that they put on in Hood River bad weather.

The girl seated in the middle looks like she has a cast on her right arm.

Rick, there were bonds issued to pave streets about 1912/1913, so I presume they did it shortly after. There was a previous post on the subject: https://www.hoodriverhistorymuseum.org?showimage=51

I think I recognize the livery stable in the background. But what is the building immediately behind the Yasui Store?

William, the Sanborn map identifies it as a two story dwelling. No other use mentioned, so I presume it was a residence.

I assume the Yasui store is still the same building we saw in photo #190?
The bottom story entrance looks a little different, but the top story looks the same.
Are the two girls in back wearing uniforms?
Pine Grove produced some nice looking youngsters.

Those do look like uniforms don’t they. I don’t recall anything about school uniforms, other than maybe they were in some girls club.
That is quite the Oldsmobile bus when you really get to looking at it. Car boys, were those tires hard rubber or were they using tubed tires by then?

The tires are tube type. You can see the air filling-stem at about 3:30 on the front wheel.

I think the cute little girl with the open coat sitting next to the nice looking boy in front of the two girls with sailor blouses is my great aunt Margaret Winchell Husbands. She was always easy to recognize as she had the most adorable face and personality!
