Historic Hood River
Out For a Drive, Again

Notes
Horatio Davidson liked to show off his cars during spring blossoms. Dale from WAAAM identifies this as a 1914 Hudson touring car. That’s Horatio Davidson driving, with his father Charles Davidson sharing the back seat with Ezra Smith, I believe.

1914 was the first year Hudson switched from right hand steering to left hand steering.
Most car makers had made the switch by then.
They were following Ford’s lead to left hand steering as Henry was making more autos in the US, than any other auto maker.

Speaking of Hudsons, The last year they made Hudsons was 1957. It was interesting to me that in 1969, I met a fellow who collected old Hudsons. At that time, he had 28 Hudsons sitting on his property over by Bend.

Those are quite the whiskers that Charles Davidson is sporting.

Class and rank and wealth seems to be prominent in all these early pictures. Maybe it still is today but not so obvious by clothing worn. IMHO

Charles Davidson is always the easiest person to identify in our old images, but Horatio Davidson and Ezra Smith are pretty distinctive in their own right.
i think we still use our cars as symbols of wealth and power, but I believe it is a little less so each generation.

There is a restored Hudson in my community but it is more of a 1950’s model.

WAAAM is blessed to have a 1930 Hudson Super 8, 4 door sedan, 1951 Hudson Hornet 2 door sedan with "Twin H Power" and on loan, is a 1937 Hudson Terraplane 2 door sedan.
The ’51 Hornet is just like the car, in Disney’ Cars movie and the little kids go gaga over it. It was donated by Dr. Ford’s family if Bend, OR.
The ’30 Hudson runs like a champ and is all original. It was donated by Ray Splinter in Portland.
