Historic Hood River
Mt. Hood Loop Highway
6-18-2019

Notes
Does anyone recognize this spot where the Mt. Hood Loop Highway crossed the East Fork of the Hood River?
It’s a shame the beautiful concrete rails have been lost. The only one I know of is on the “Umbrella/Sahalie Falls” segment of the highway which connects the Mt. Hood Meadows and Hood River Meadows entrance roads. If you look carefully you can even catch it from OR-35.

My guess would be Robinhood Campground / Gumjuwac Trail Head area. That appears to be an entrance to the South on the West side of the road. That would fit for the old Robinhood Campground entrance. Others may confirm or deny, but I believe there was a Robinhood Guard Station also. That area has been flooded so many times, I am sure this bridge structure is somewhere down river. Love the old concrete bridge structures.

I believe all the railings from this era had brass plaques, wonder where these two ended up ~

Sahalie Falls bridge from this era is well worth a visit, especially before the fountain tumbles into the canyon. I had hope the forest service would save it but apparently no interest.

Yes there was a Robin Hood Guard Station and if I recall it was right at the entrance off the highway.
That big flood that wiped out Pollalie camp ground took a lot of things out along that river. Pollalie was such a nice little camp ground and also Sherwood is much different that it was back in the day.
