Notes

This image of the lobby of the Mt. Hood Hotel Annex lobby probably dates to its very earliest days. The annex to the popular hotel was built in 1913. The original hotel is gone, but this brick annex now operates as the Hood River Hotel. The lobby looks very much the same, though the wall to the left has been punched through to a restaurant area.

Notes on the reverse indicate this print was used to produce a 5 1/2″ wide halftone screen for The Hood River Glacier. I suspect it was for advertising purposes, as they didn’t print many photos with their stories. Perhaps it was used in a brochure printed at the Glacier’s office.

Arthur, do you know when the city got its first electrical infrastructure and was gas used prior to electricity?

It's hard to be precise, because the first attempts at electricity were localized and were not 24 hour service. The city was paying bills for street lights in 1904, so I generally use that as the date. There were at least three hydroelectric generators along the lower Hood River. I think the “electricity” tag will show you several posts which address early electrical generators.
