I’m not sure I’ve yet shared this classic Reeves image of the Hood River White Salmon Interstate Bridge as it was originally constructed in 1924. It shows a really nice view of the Hood River delta prior to the Bonneville Dam. You can see the old dock at the base of “Dock Grade” in White Salmon.
This photo is very good quality for the era. Tomorrow I’ll zoom in to show some detail of the east side of Hood River.

This would be the area that after the Indian attack on The Cascades, the Army took over the Joslyn homestead and set up the temporary, White Salmon Reservation. A blockhouse was built, but I'm not sure where it was located.
In 1859 the land was returned to the Joslyns.

I can see about exactly where Chief Chenowith, who was the one along with other family/tribe members for the Cascade Massacre had his home. So sad that the dam covered it all up, as sure there were wonderful artifacts there. Also the cave (which was covered) where the family put Chenowith after his body was given to them…(History showsw that Chenowith was on the coast digging clams at the time of the massacre. U. S. higher ups didn't care who they got, as long as they were Indians, and Chenowith, was the first one they came upon..)

I believe the pipe up and over the draw span is a gas line, wonder if it was on the bridge when first built or added later.
