Here’s another view of the working of a small town newspaper in 1940. This space which once was filled with the scent of ink and newsprint is now laced with caffeine, as the home to Dog River Coffee.

The style of the chair has not changed much. A little more padding, some wheels and armrests and it looks like today’s computer chair.

I am fairly certain that the man in front is Stewart Turnbull. He was older when I knew him, but seems to resemble quite a bit.
What on earth is that big round thing in the back, middle of the picture?

This must be looking backward toward where the couches are now. That window in the distance must be looking into an office. If you compare it to the other photo.

Keep in mind that this photo was not taken at the present location of the H. R. News on State St., but down on Oak St.

Yes i know, in Dog River. That looks like an exterior window but it cant be. The presses run down the west side where all the concrete is nowadays.

@Charlott, it looks to me the cover for the fly wheel for the press. You can see what appears to be one of the spokes in the little opening at the bottom.
