Notes
This beautifully hand-colored postcard shows Mt. Adams from the Heights. It is identified as 12th and Taylor, 1902.
The message, dated August 1910, is from Mrs F. Vogel of Rufus to Mrs. L.M. Fowler of Hood River, thanking her for the peaches.

It has always amazed me how the hills come down to a V, with Mt. Adams sitting right in the middle. Appears that this is still quite a rural area.

Nice. Lived on Belmont. Reminds me of view of the valley and Mt, Hood from our place. Lived in places with bigger mountains and wilder country, but no place that I remember being as peaceful and tranquil on beautiful summer mornings.

Nice example of balloon frame construction on the west side of 12th. Wonder if that’s the recent house/apt remodel we’ve viewed not too long ago here.

Ohhhh, I might have to frame this one.
That is the view I see when I am done shopping in Hood River and headed home.
One year I spent a lot of time in the waiting room of the Hood River Hospital. Up on the second floor. This was my view. Like Charlott, I would ponder the V with Mt Adams in the middle. The east side of the V was drier than the west. That rapidly you could see a climate change.

I’ve seen that "1854" photo before, but I am very skeptical. It clearly shows a telephone pole. Perhaps this building was built in the 1850s, but the image is no older than the 1890s.

The first time I saw the photo, I also was very skeptical. In fact, I said, "no way are those buildings built by 1854!" Coe’s came to HR in 1854 and had lumber shipped from The Dalles to build their home.
The photo says before White Salmon, but Joslyns were in WS in 1852.
I can’t tell that is a telephone pole, but if it is, that pretty well decides it isn’t 1854.
What I was checking was the fence. I wanted to see if the fence was the same as today’s HHR photo.

Idyllic looking. So the Farm Stand would be to our right, maybe that is june st. further down. Beautiful.
