This undated Alva Day view of Hood River from the east side shows a freshly paved State Street and a bright and shiny new concrete bridge, so I’m placing this at 1920 or shortly thereafter. Compare this view of our city with yesterday’s 1883 view. What a difference 37 years makes.
Button Junction has a nice billboard advertising services for motorists. Here’s what I can make out:

This angle gives a clear view of the junction of the OR&N and Mt. Hood Railroad junction. You can also see some of the more rustic houses along Bluff Road.

Didn’t realize the trees went out that far into the river.

If I recall correctly my great grand mother worked at The Pheasant Cafe – does anyone know or recall much about it ?

The April 1921 Journal of Public Works, under Columbia river Highway, states:
"Beautifying Highways. The matter of beautifying the highways has had consideration from the commission and it is thought that this feature should be given more attention in the future….
The commission has instructed its engineers to remove all advertising signs within the highway limits by the law so that the highways themselves are free from advertising except, of course, those signs which are on private property."

What date was the original OR&N bridge replaced?

The OR&N bridge was constructed in 1907, replacing the one we saw yesterday. One of the reasons it was built was to straighten out a bad curve in the track leaving the station.

The Pheasant Cafe was in the Hotel Oregon building (Second and Cascade).

The bad curve Arthur mentions the RR straightening was doubly bad as it was on trestle, not good in a spot where the train would be braking for the station.
