Historic Hood River
Holiday Gift
12-25-2020

Notes
Here’s a little holiday gift from Historic Hood River. I have uploaded a high resolution version of the full Gorge panorama which you are welcome to download. I promise it will offer hours of entertainment as you explore every woodshed or cabin in the area circa 1905. If you find someting interesting please leave a note.
The panorama is in two overlapping sections because some jpg viewers can’t handle images 42,000 pixels wide. You can download the west segment or the east segment here. No batteries required, but the segments are about 45MB each so may takes some time to load and view.

I think you might be better than Santa Clause.
Thank you for all your work on this project.

Arthur, thank you for doing this and making these high resolution files available. I am happy to report I was able to successfully open and save both segments.

Arthur, nice of you to present us with your gift today. First things I looked at was the old armory, Nancy Monroe's back porch and at Little and Big Mitchell. Awesome. Merry Christmas to all!

After deep research on various parts of this pano and previous information shared, I believe this pano was taken by Stanley Crimp in the month of July 1904 plus or minus a week or two. If not taken by Stanley, the pano ended up where he worked and Stanley was able to obtain it and before he passed away 1955 or it was found in his belonging, but his daughter and Son In Law, Aslyn Absten ended up with them and they in turn donated it to the Hood River museum where it has been hiding for the past 40 years.. The detail is outstanding and because of it, I have been able to pinpoint the date primarily because the Washington Hotel in White Salmon is not being built and because the White Salmon School is under construction. The primary picture was taken from a ledge north and above the Bingen Lutheran church, and I think it may be high enough at that spot to actually see the White Salmon School, but if not the photographer moved a couple of times and was able to stitch it all together.

Thank you for the holiday gift, Arthur! Easy to get lost in these at high resolution — a welcome and needed distraction as we close out 2020!
