Notes
The rugged high desert country to the SE of Hood River must have been a sharp contrast to the everyday experience of our road trippers. I suspect this scenery was greeted with a mixture of excitement and tension, as this was no place to get stuck with a finicky automobile.
Anyone recognize this spot?

I agree…can you imagine how hot that would have been to be going down that little dirt road on an August summer day! Make me hot just thinking about it:)

I imagine some of these people taking road trips in the 1920’s were traveling over the same route their parents or grandparents had traveled with a covered wagon.

While I can see and appreciate the beauty of the high desert – with images like these, it’s a wonder that anyone wanted to come west. It looks very uninviting.

Definitely over in eastern Oregon, as no landscape any where near Hood River or the Gorge area like this.
