Historic Hood River

Notes
We’re continuing our road trip through central Oregon in 1921, somewhere west of Bend. I’m sure someone will know the name of this lake. The two mountains peeking out in the background should be a pretty good hint.
This must have made a beautiful campsite for our Hood River road trippers. While the scenery is largely unchanged, I suspect they had a little more solitude in 1921.

I am not familiar with your beautiful Oregon country so I can’t make a guess, but my parents took their week long honeymoon on a route very similar to the one taken by your HR road trippers.
That was in the late 1940’s and they often talked about the beauty of the area.

Not sure, but the two mountains close together could be two of the Sisters. The rounded "cinder cone" type peak might be Black Butte. I am not certain as to the line up, but the one on the right in the distance has a top quite similiar to Mt. Washington. As to the lake that area is so dotted with them, hard to tell.
Come on Mr. Patterson, you know these mountains, tell us.

This is called Odell Lake it is on the North east side of the lake alone Forest Rd 58 or Willamette Hwy. Diamond Peak is the snow cap mountain. The small mountain on the right is Mt Yoran

I see the Odell Lake Lodge was constructed in 1903, so definitely an area our HR travelers could have visited. But maybe not the solitude that Arthur thinks. It was at one time a railroad station.

Excellent work, Ellen. I’ve matched the view in Google Earth– there is a place called "Sunset Cove" on the east bank of Odell Lake about a mile from the southern end which matches this photo perfectly. I didn’t think the road trip went this far south, but now we know better.
