Historic Hood River
Fred and His Buick
2-19-2020

Notes
From Olga Plog’s photo album, this image is captioned, “Fred and his Buick, May 9.” The year is 1926, and the radiator of that fine automobile certainly is shining in the sun. It was probably nickel plate, as chrome trim was a few years in the future.
WAAAM has a 1928 Buick with a very similar radiator shell.

He must have been doing very well in that time frame to own a Buick car.
Fred was a nickname. His real name was John Edward Plog, of German decent, having been born in Iowa in 1890. His wife was Lempi Annala, the daughter of John Jacob Annala and Elizabeth Lepesto. Fred and Lempi had one daughter Marybeth.
They farmed in the Odell area. Both are in Idlewilde Cemetery.

The ring must have some significance?

It’s so great to see family members pictures showing up on here. My dad was Frederick Plog.

Thanks for explaining the genealogy, Gladys. This means Fred Plog was Olga’s brother. Odd that John Edward Plog was known as "Fred" instead of his brother Walter Frederick Plog. Wonder how that happened.
Fred was born in 1892 so he would be about 34 in this image.

If you see any photos of Vera Lafferty or Blanche Lafferty in Olga’s album, would you mind sending them to me? They were apparently friends, and there are a couple of photos of Olga in Vera and Blanche’s mother’s album. Thanks, Nancy

Is that album something that can be viewed at the museum?
ArthurB
Nancy– There are actually 2 (or 3?) Plog albums which can be viewed at the museum by special arrangement. They’re fragile so we try to minimize handling, but I would be happy to show it to you. One has been fully scanned, so we can also view all its pages electronically,
